Raj and Trisha - The memorable car journey - Part 8

Raj unlocked the doors of his Celerio with autocop.

"Sorry, its a bit small, my car." Raj said unnecessarily.

"Do I look like an elephant to you?" Trisha asked with a straight face.

Raj laughed out loud. "Here, let me get the door for you" he said reaching her side first.

"Well, well, well....someone is rather 'chivalrous'. Do you do that for your mother as well?" Trisha asked smiling.

"Do you have to joke on everything I say or do?" Raj asked with a straight face. "The answer is no, by the way" he added unable to hold a straight face anymore.

Both of them sat in the car and were on their way.

"Tell me the route to your house please." Raj said.

"Ok." Trisha replied. She was checking out his car. The car perfume was magnificent.

"Your car?" Raj asked.

"Mercedes SLK 350" Trisha replied. At that very same time, a large pothole appeared out of nowhere on the road and Raj slammed on the brakes and swerved the car around the pothole suddenly.

"What the fuck??" he asked.

"Yeah, lot of potholes on the road, I know." Trisha said misreading the reference of the rhetoric.

"No no....you OWN a MERCEDES SLK 350?" asked Raj incredulously.

"No. you asked me 'your car?'. So, I told you which car I like." Trisha laughed.

"You're crazy. That was a poor joke and we could've had an accident !!" Raj replied shaking his head. "You do have a very weird sense of humour" he added.

"Fuck off" she said angrily.

"You too fuck off" Raj said.

"Fuck YOU." Trisha emphasizing 'you'.

"Sure...." Raj replied, smiled, looked at her and laughed.

"Very funny." Trisha replied after a moment's delay and punched him quite powerfully on his arm. "Ouch. That hurt"  he replied still smiling. He could see that she was angry and embarrassed, but he saw the same shadow of a smile, he had seen on the day of the interview when he'd commented on her 'nice drawers'.

The rest of the way, both were silent except when Trisha muttered the directions. Both could not quite speak up after that awkward bit of conversation, but Raj was smiling widely - hoping that Trisha would'nt notice. And Trisha had her head firmly fixed in the front looking confused.

Finally, Trisha's place arrived. Raj stopped the car and still smiling, said, "Here we are, where is the mercedes?"

"Shut up, idiot..." Trisha said smiling at him for the first time since they fell silent.

"Listen, Im sorry, if what I said was inappropriate. It just slipped out of my mouth. Deepest apologies. No disrespect meant" said Raj honestly.

"Its ok, No offense taken" Trisha replied curtly, then she smiled.

"Ok. Had a nice time with you Trisha, Ill call you for that movie thing." said Raj.

"Yes. Sure. I had a good time too, Raj." Trisha replied flashing her dazzling smile at him again. Then she put her hand forward. Raj took it and shook it in a formal handshake. Then Trisha put her other hand on top of his and shook it one more time.

Raj's heart melted at the gesture. Her hands were warm, soft and just like the other day she held them for a fraction of second longer than necessary. He had a strong urge to pull her towards him and kiss her. He resisted the urge and quickly withdrew his hand as if he had an electric shock. Trisha laughed knowingly, got out of the car, went to the gate and requested the watchman to open it. Raj was watching from a distance.....and muttering to himself unknowingly - in filmy style "Palat.....palat....palat....."

And then Trisha turned and looked around at him and waved him goodbye, ekdum filmy style again !!

After that Raj did not remember how he much time it took to reach Sanju's place, how many pegs of whiskey he had, which brand it was, what they chatted about and what they ordered for dinner.

Trisha had taken over his head and images of her appeared everywhere to him .....

Jaadu hai.....tera hi jaadu......jo mere dil ko chaane laga......
